PURC and The Cleveland St. PHARM Project
The Philadelphia Urban Roots Collective (PURC) is an active group of local residents, organized w/ a vision of combining Education w/ Neighborhood Gardening and Farming.
PURC has already produced active Urban Farms and Gardens throughout Philadelphia Neighborhoods, linking together the local neighbors and Churches to get involved in actively maintaning neighborhood gardens and growing food for the neighborhood.
PURC offers local educational workshops for All Ages, focused on teaching all those who attend how to get involved in growing fruits and vegetables, and also healthy and dietary education sessions, educating everyone from Children to Seniors, on healthier eating habits and recipes to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
As a “corner store” here in the neighborhood, The Pharmacy, supports the Cleveland St. PHARM Project by rallying the neighborhood together to compost, as well as continue to build community and garden in the abandoned lots on Cleveland Street behind the Pharmacy.
Combined w/ PURC, St. Barnabas Church, Neighbors and Residents of Cleveland St, and the Philadelphia Horticultural Society’s New Neighborhood Garden Trust, we have focused our mission to protect Green Space in the Point Breeze Community from further re-development projects by Uniting the Community together to continue to transform this once abandoned dumpsite, into a flourishing community space w/ gardening, picnic tables, community events, movies in the lot, and educational sessions and workshops at St Barnabas Church and The Pharmacy.
We are reaching out to our local neighbors and supporters to become a part of this with us as we think this is a very important mission/issue in our Community. Our goal is to not only educate, but to offer the plots to the neighbors, as well as the church, and feature fresh, locally grown produce as part of our Daily Food Menu.
We will be Organizing a Meet and Greet event w/ PURC here at the PHARM in order to further our initiative to protect these lots w/ PURC’s vision in Urban Farming.
Thank You for your continued support, and we hope to see you this June!
